Benefits Of Having A Door Entry System

Installing a door entry system is becoming a popular method of security for domestic and commercial properties alike. The system provides safe and secure access to buildings, removing the need for a traditional key and lock. A door entry system can be a variety of technologies, ranging from electronic keypads to camera identification. Door entry system technology is still under innovation and there will most likely be even more secure methods of security released for sale within the next few years.

Having a traditional lock and key has become a risky method of security, especially when one owns a business. Old employees may take keys with them or keys may be lost over time. Creating loads of copies of the key only increases the security risk and locks can be picked open by thieves.

Why should I have a door entry system?

  • Lowers insurance premiums

If a business has put security measures in place to protect the property, your insurance provider will most likely lower their insurance premium.
  • Increases security

By removing the requirement for loose keys, you won’t be able to lose them or have them stolen. If your door entry system has fobs or cards to function, you can just deactivate them if they get lost so other people won’t be able to use them. If you have a keypad lock, you’ll be able to change the code as often as you like.
  • Controls access

If you own a building with multiple access doors, you’ll be able to control which employees have access to which rooms, creating a more secure environment. You can also have time restrictions, meaning certain doors can be locked during the night, even if an authorised employee tries to access the room.

Different kinds of door entry systems available

  • Keypad lock

One of the most common forms of door entry systems, a simple keypad lock is used to heighten security and protect property from unauthorized entry. A card or fob isn’t needed as these can be lost or misplaced.
  • Proximity readers

This is an easy-to-use system where authorised persons are given a card or fob that is scanned when they need access to the building. Most proximity cards can work from a distance, from either one inch up to a couple of feet from the sensor. This is the cheapest door entry system, making it a popular choice for many businesses.
  • Biometric systems

Although this is the least sort after door entry system, we foresee it becoming the most used form of security in the future. Biometric systems approve access via face detection, retinal scans, or fingerprints, making it extremely secure. However, they are more costly than the other door entry systems and are invasive to those who have to use them on a regular basis.
